The UVic Protein Centre

The UVic Proteomics Centre is Canada’s Genomics Innovation Network Centre for proteomics technology development and service. The Centre has been providing protein analytical services to a wide variety of academic, industrial, and government laboratories since 1982, making us the longest operating protein core facility in Canada. The Centre’s technology development program supports further proteomics research and the development and application of novel methods in the areas of protein identification and characterization, quantitative proteomics for biomarker discovery and validation, as well as bioinformatics.  We house over $10 million in state-of-the art mass spectrometry instruments, which are supported by a dedicated team of almost 30 researchers and technicians.

The Bioinformatics at P.C.

Proteomics is inherently data rich which makes  bioinformatics an essential part of any proteomics research. In the bioinformatics groups we focus on the automation of (prote)omics data analysis and the development of processing algorithms and workflows.
Our research interests include novel methods for targeted proteomics data analysis, automation of targeted MRM/PRM assay design, and building libraries and knowledge bases for documenting the experimental work in proteomics. We also develop tools for advanced visualization in bottom-up proteomics and build reactive tools to help researcher in the analysis of their data. Many of our processing pipeline and work is developed and hosted on distributed systems that we host and maintain ourselves.
